what is biodynamic farming?
Rudolf Steiner identified that overused soils not only degrade the quality of crops but also diminish their medicinal properties.
Sourcing
We are committed to sourcing at least 80% of the herbs in our pharmacy from a prestigious biodynamic farm in the UK, renowned for its world-class agricultural practices.
We are committed to sourcing at least 80% of the herbs in our pharmacy from a prestigious biodynamic farm in the UK, renowned for its world-class agricultural practices.
For the more exotic botanicals that can’t thrive in Europe’s climate, we collaborate with global partners who adhere to the highest certifications for soil health, ensuring their crops are grown without pesticides or herbicides. We commit to rigorous third-party lab testing before being using any plants in our formulations, ensuring they meet our uncompromising standards for cleanliness and potency.
The principles of biodynamic farming focus on nurturing and caring for the soil
What is the difference between biodynamic and organic?
Biodynamic farming builds on organic principles by treating the farm as a self-sustaining ecosystem and using specific herbal preparations and lunar planting cycles, while organic farming focuses on avoiding synthetic chemicals and GMOs to maintain ecological balance and conserve biodiversity.
Why is biodynamic farming so important?
Plants produce protective compounds or phytochemicals, which are responsible for sought after medicinal effect. In non-organic farming, these compounds are often absent because the plants do not encounter the same environmental challenges. These challenges are essential for enhancing the medicinal value of herbs.
Therefore the quality of herbal medicine depends on cultivation practices. The more natural and demanding the plant’s growth conditions, the higher and purer its medicinal value becomes.
Herbal medicines over pharmaceutical products?
Herbal medicine is different from regular pharmaceutical medicine because it uses whole plants instead of isolated active ingredients. Whole plant extracts can work at lower concentrations, which often reduces side effects and can be safer when used correctly.
This beneficial effect is called ‘synergy.’ The synergy between certain active ingredients in a plant is key for the positive effect on the body and relies as a foundation on the cultivation technique.
